Course Description

The course of Islamic Theory in International Relations  is one of the compulsory courses for all of student of International Relations. This course will guide you to know the advance of  principle on thinking in discussing all of aspect in politics and International relations idea such state, idiology, method of thinking, approach on philosphy dimension like ontology, epistemology, and axiology. Student also study about scientific methods such as maqashid shariah, ushul fiqh, ulumul hadith, ulumul quran, kitab as-siyar (diplomacy). 

Learning Outcome

Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be become a political analysts and practitioner covering two aspects, namely:

A. Hard Skills: 

1) Students are able to understand and analyze the process of academic thinking

2) Students are able to undestand social reality with diverse approach

3) Students are able to carry out the practice of Islamic Political Theory  in articulating idea correctly

B. Soft skills:

Show the capacity to work effectively, confidently, flexibly, both in an independent work environment and in group work, in various work environment situations.

The Correlation between the Course and the Competence Projected for the Graduates

The Philosphy of Science is one of the compulsory courses aimed  to support the achievement of HI UMY's graduate profile as a manager of  international relations with competencies: a) able to perform parts of the arbitration, facilitation, or mediation functions in overcoming conflicts at national and global levels; and b) able to carry out bilateral and multilateral negotiations at the international social and business context.

Teaching Strategies:

The teaching and learning process is conducted using two models of learning: 1) face to face meeting and 2) online meeting in which the students have to be involved actively to achieve the best result of their study. They have to prepare themselves with information and materials about the topics based on the syllabus prior to the class, and always update themselves with the assignments and activities about this subject.

Evaluation and Grading

1. Assignment and Attendance : 30 %

2. Competency Test : 30 %

3. Final Paper or Videos on Philosophy of Science Discourse : 40 %

Ontology: Ontology is the philosophical study of being. More broadly, it studies concepts that directly relate to being, in particular becomingexistencereality, as well as the basic categories of being and their relations.

Axiology: is the philosophical study of value. It is either the collective term for ethics and aesthetics[1], philosophical fields that depend crucially on notions of worth, or the foundation for these fields, and thus similar to value theory and meta-ethics.

Epistemology: is the branch of philosophy concerned with knowledge. Epistemologists study the nature of knowledge, epistemic justification, the rationality of belief, and various related issues

Positivism: a philosophical theory which states that "positive" knowledge (knowledge of anything which is not true by definition) is exclusively derived from experience of natural phenomena and their properties and relations
